  • Hot Toddies for Cold Nights Posted February 1, 2018

    1

Hot toddies are a classic winter drink, and are simple to make. Whether it’s to get over a cold, or just warm you up, this beverage is perfect for any chilly winter night. Traditionally made with some form of whiskey, (Bourbon, rye whiskey, Irish whiskey or Scotch) this drink can be made with any dark liquor, including rum and even reposado tequila.

    Classic Toddyhottie

    1 teaspoon honey

    2 fluid ounces boiling water

    1 1/2 fluid ounces whiskey

    3 whole cloves

    1 cinnamon stick

    1 slice lemon

    1 pinch ground nutmeg

    How to make it:

Pour the honey and whiskey into a mug. Spice it with the cloves and cinnamon, and put in the slice of lemon. Top with hot water and  let the mixture stand for 5 minutes so the flavors can mingle, then sprinkle with a pinch of nutmeg before serving.

*for an extra kick of flavor, try adding ½ ounce of Ginger Liqueur

    Hot-tea Toddy

    8 ounces hot water

    1 bag herbal tea

    1 ounces bourbon

    1 tablespoon honey

    1 lemon wedge

    How to make it:

Pour hot water into mug and steep tea for 2 to 3 minutes. Remove tea bag and add honey, stirring to dissolve. Pour in whiskey, add squeeze of lemon, and stir.

*for extra flavor, cloves and other spices can be added to his recipe.

    Tequila Toddy

    2 ounces reposado tequilla

    ½ ounce agave syrup

    1 dash Angostura bitters

    Hot water

    Lime wedge

    Cinnamon stick

    How to make it:

Stir together reposado tequila, agave syrup (equal parts agave dissolved in hot water,) and a dash of Angostura bitters. Top with hot water. Squeeze a lime wedge over the top, and garnish with a big cinnamon stick.
